    Ludvig Faddeev was born in Leningrad in a family of mathematicians, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences Dmitrii Faddeev and Vera Faddeeva.

    He finished the 155th boys’ school located in Smolninskiy district of Leningrad. Now it’’s known as 155th gymnasium of the Central District of St. Petersburg.

    At the 23rd European Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics in Denmark on August 11, the establishment of an international medal named after St. Petersburg physicist and mathematician Ludvig Faddeev was announced. This decision was dated to the 55th anniversary of his "Scattering theory for the three-particle system" thesis publication. The establishment of the new award was initiated by the research institutions, uniting physicists: the European Physical Society and the American Physical Society. Henceforth the Ludvig Faddeev medal will be awarded for the best work in the field of quantum theory of several particles.

    Academician Ludwig Faddeev, an honorary citizen of St. Petersburg, died in the northern capital. He passed away at the age of 82 after a long illness.
